Fire Scientist

Although a fire scientist may sound similar to a firefighter, the jobs of these two are actually quite different.  A firefighter spends his or her time learning how to put out fires and putting that knowledge into action when fighting fires in a forest, building, home, etc.  A fire scientist, on the other hand, spends his or her time learning exactly how fire works.  A fire scientist is interested in figuring out what fire feeds on and how it spreads and using that knowledge to develop new technologies that fight fire in clean and helpful ways.  The knowledge fire scientists have is extremely important to developing the best ways to protect forests, homes, businesses, animals, and people.

Fire scientists should have a master’s degree or higher in a fire science program and be skilled in thinking logically, be detail-oriented and very trustworthy.
